Final(e) Thoughts: Hooked

Last year I wrote a series of blog entries on the different season/series finales of my favorite shows. That was supposed to be one-time thing since Chuck, House and Desperate Housewives were ending and I thought How I Met Your Mother was, too. But I decided to do it again this year for lack of better things to do. Ha.


I fell in love with Once Upon A Time the first time I watched it. Aside from the concept of modernizing fairy tales, I fell in love with Henry Mills, Emma Swan, Regina Mills, and even Rumplestiltskin. The only cons I had then was its length (40min-on-average) and the possibility that writers Kitsis and Horowitz will ran out of stories to adapt. But 44 regular episodes and 2 specials later, I am still very much interested.

Of all the five finales I've watched (the four others were Glee, The Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother and Community), this one gave me the most finale feels. The possibility of Storybrooke being wiped out off the face of the earth paired with the constant What's-Greg-and-Tamara's-Deal feeling kept me on the edge of my seat bed the entire time I was watching it.

These are the reasons why I loved Once Upon a Time's finale "And Straight On 'Til Morning."

1. Captain Hook

At first, my love for Captain Hook was because of Colin O'Donoghue's British accent, his hairy chest and (believe it or not) his eyeliner-accented eyes. But knowing Captain Hook's background story gave me a better understanding of how his mind worked. Seeing how he treated and valued Baelfire, even after surrendering him to the Lost Boys, made me realize that humans are inherently good. That before bad guys became bad guys, something sickeningly bad happened to them making them choose to be the victimizer rather than be the victim. I see now why I love Megamind (but I abhor Will Ferrell).

After a Baelfire-induced epiphany, Hook decides to join the Light side to help them look for Henry as they travel to Neverland. In season 3, we will see if he has truly forgiven Rumple for killing Milah (I bet he has not), and how he will react to seeing Baelfire after, what, ten thousand years.

2. Regina (and Emma) saves the day...again

Since the Pilot episode, I loved how Lana Parilla played Regina Mills and the Evil Queen. In season 2, I loved her more for being so emotional while holding back her emotions. She does not show that the Queen is hurt through her actions or words but the slight shift of her eyes and the quiver of her lips exposes how the Queen is, deep inside, simply Regina.

I teared up twice in the finale and both scenes involved Regina. Both were in the mine--first was when Regina was saying goodbye, sort of, to Emma, and second was when she was saying goodbye to Henry.

Season 2 was all about revealing who the Evil Queen really is--how she grew up, how much she loved her mother, how she decided that she wanted a son.

Regina joining the good side, albeit how fleeting it is--I'm sure we'll see her, once or twice, blindside the Charmings in Season 3--was a refreshing and gradual change. First, she helped Emma and Snow return back to Storybrooke. Now, she joins forces with the Charmings and travels aboard the Jolly Roger to find the boy, Henry.

3. Storybrooke's almost-end

I thought Storybrooke would be gone and everyone would start off in Fairytale Land or Wonderland. But no, Belle remained in Storybrooke to cloak it from the likes of Greg and Tamara. I look forward to the the crossover episodes, if any, of Once Upon A Time with Once Upon A Time in Wonderland.

4. Rumbelle

I don't really dig Rumbelle--mainly because Rumple is old enough to be Belle's dad or, to stretch it, granddad. However, when Belle drank the blue-colored drink and remembered who she is, my heart may have skipped a beat. With Mayor Mills, Sheriff Swan and Ruby gone, I guess Belle will have her hands full by being the mayor and sheriff.

5. Glimpse of Aurora and a veiled Mulan

I hope this glimpse of these two interesting yet underused characters in final seconds of "And Straight On 'Til Morning" means they will be used extensively and their stories looked into in Season 3. My fears listed in the Cons part of QNBS were wrong; Kitsis and Horowitz will not run out of fairy tales to tell.

6. Peter Pan as the villain

In almost every story, and particularly in fairy tales, the key is having a great villain. For two seasons, we've seen the Evil Queen and her mother Cora be the necessary foils to Snow, Charming and Emma. With the demise of Cora (and her possible reappearance in Wonderland as the queen) and with Regina joining the light side, the gang need a villain to go against, and based on the Lost Boys' fear of Him, Peter Pan seems kinda scary.

Last year I wrote a series of blog entries on the different season/series finales of my favorite shows. The Big Bang Theory has always been about Sheldon, Leonard and Penny. Their relationship is what season 1 to 3 focused on. In season 4, we welcomed Amy and Bernadette to the group. In season 5, we saw Howard and Bernadette got married. Season 6 was, rightly, Raj's season. It started with him going on a date with Lucy and ended (SPOILER ALERT!) with him soberly talking to the girls about the break-up.

Ok, let's back up a bit.

"The Bon Voyage Reaction" focused on the gang's reaction on two voyages.

1. Leonard's Voyage to the North Sea 

This is the second time Leonard goes away for scientific research but this is his first time going alone. Penny is supportive. Sheldon, obviously, does not like Leonard to leave because he caters to his every whim. Howard keeps pointing out how "space beats water." Bernadette suggests Leonard and Penny get married. Amy was too excited to see Raj's brain to care the where/why/how of Leonard leaving. Raj couldn't care less as he was focused on convincing Lucy to meet his friends or at least one of them.

Leonard and Penny saying goodbye at the car was done with the right amount of emotions to show that they do care and love each other and did not want to spend 4 months apart but it was not too overly done (think Rachel and Finn at the station in Season 3) to make it mushy. Bringing in Sheldon, to deliver the funny lines, was what did the trick.

The effects of Leonard's voyage to the group dynamics will be evident now (except for Sheldon's vehement refusal for him to leave) but we will surely see the effect when they come back in Season 7.


2. Raj's Voyage

In all the six years I've been following The Big Bang Theory, I was always looking forward to the moment when Raj will be able to speak to a girl not biologically-related to him without the assistance of alcohol or performance affecting drugs. I figured expected it to be a big moment, preceded by glimpses of Raj's social development. I was wrong but I was happily wrong. The moment just happened and it was so characteristically The Big Bang Theory-esque. It was similar to when Sheldon gave Penny a hug after she gave him a table napkin used by Leonard Nimoy for Christmas.

In the end, Raj was too heartbroken to care.

To be honest, in the moments leading to the realization that Raj can soberly speak to Penny, I was holding my breath hoping that this won't lead to another Penny and Raj hook-up. And I was so relieved that it was not. It was so much better.

Lucy may have broken our beloved Raj's heart but her existence in Season 6 has served its purpose. Through hers and Raj's botched relationship, Raj was able to find a connection with the girls, enabling him to talk to them sober. And for this, we have Lucy to thank.

Last year's season finale, despite having the Howard and Bernadette wedding, felt lukewarm to me. I wanted Season 6 to be better. And I was not disappointed.

Final(e) Thoughts: The End of an Era

Last year I wrote a series of blog entries on the different season/series finales of my favorite shows. I start this year's festivities with Glee's Season 4 finale, "All or Nothing".

Going into "All or Nothing" everyone expected a Klaine proposal by the end of the episode/season because of all the sneak previews and shit, but we didn't get that instead we had:

1. The Catfish Storyline Coming to An End (Thank god!)

The world's worst kept secret was finally revealed to the lone person who didn't know as Unique admitted to Ryder that she is Catfish. Ryder was so enraged he decided not to talk to Unique ever. I think he would've been less mad if Jake was Catfish.

I think this storyline was dragged out a couple of episodes more than necessary but, to look on the brighter side of things, because of it I appreciated Blake Jenner as an actor. He wasn't super good but he was more than average. Too bad, he may not be returning next season, as Ryder announced he will officially leave glee club after Regionals.

Uh Ryder, I think you can leave glee club even unofficially.

2. Regionals

Jessica Sanchez aka Frida Romero, despite owning the New Directions' sorry asses with her two-song performance, places 2nd (ouch) to the New Directions.

If our love is a tragedy, why are you my remedy?
If our love is insanity, why are you my clarity?

3. Wemma Wedding (Finally!)

Mr. Schue and Emma finally tie the knot in the choir room with the New New Directions and Kurt, Santana, Mercedes and Mike. Notably absent is Finn Hudson who was on rehab during the filming of this episode too busy studying to be a teacher to actually come back for his best friend's wedding.

4. Brittany Saying Goodbye

The episode surprisingly centered on Brittany. It started with her MIT interview, then her demand for solos, two Fondue for Twos (first with Mr. Schue and Coach Sue and second with Santana), and ended with a heartwarming speech for everyone in show circle and her and Santana walking off the stage after the New Directions win Regionals. With all the airtime she got just to say goodbye (it was more than what Rachel, Finn, Kurt, Santana, Quinn, Mercedes and Mike got in Season 4's finale "Goodbye") and of course the rumors that Morris will not return for Glee's Season 5 to focus on her impending motherhood, I am 75% sure this is Brittany's last Glee episode.

Brittany started as a non-entity, the other blonde Cheerio who danced Single Ladies with Kurt and Tina. Who would've thought that her goodbye would be one of the most central storylines in the show's season finale episode four years later? Who would've thought her relationship with Santana would start the phenomenon that is Brittana and inspire thousands of fan fictions? Who would've thought Brittana would mean more, much more, than just fans wanting to make their own stories by borrowing their favorite characters?

Like many Brittana shippers, I hated the horror that was Brampocalpyse and I was convinced that Brittana is endgame. I honestly cannot watch the scene where Brittany said goodbye to Santana without feeling anything close to sadness. Words were not spoken because they were not needed. Heather Hogan said it best: [t]heir truth transcends words. Silence does speak louder than words ever could.

As I watch Brittany and Santana walk off the stage silently with their arms around each other, I mourn for the end of an era but I am also grateful to Glee for giving us Brittana. 

The end of an era.

Glee has had its faults and flaws. Season 4 was hard for it was the first time it tried to balance the need to maintain it's character as a show about a high school show choir and the need to follow the lives of Rachel, Kurt and Santana, and to an extent, Finn--characters that are very special to the fans and the show itself. Sometimes it succeeded in creating that balance but most of the time, it did not. It is precisely because of its rare moments of greatness (for example, "The Break-Up", "Shooting Star" and "All or Nothing") that I cannot let go of the show completely knowing that it can be great. I hope Glee's Season 5 (and Season 6, too) will bring the show a step closer to this greatness.

QNBS: What Would Ryan Lochte Do?

I started the Quest for the Next Best Series to find a replacement for Chuck. Ten TV shows and eleven reviews later, I decided to watch Once Upon A Time. But having the opportunity to criticize anything in a justified manner is so addicting that I have decided to continue my QNBS. I will not rename it because I don't have enough creativity to think of a new one.

I will adopt the original QNBS method for judging a show. 1. A friend recommends a TV show or I see an interesting review, or hear a sarcastic rant about it in the Internet. 2. I watch two episodes. 3. Write down what I think, Pros-Cons style.

I will add a one-liner (or maybe more) at the end of each QNBS review called The Verdict, which will serve as my verdict, my opinion, on whether you should or shouldn't watch the show.

Many series exist in TV world but today I will write about What Would Ryan Lochte Do?

Plot from Pilot: We follow the life of Olympic gold medalist swimmer Ryan Lochte as he trains with his coach, bonds with family, parties with friends and tries to find the love of his life.

E!'s newest reality show

I learned of Ryan Lochte not when he won his Olympic medals but only this summer when my blockmate (the same person who suggested Sherlock and tries to get me to try Doctor Who) tweeted that she is watching this show on mute. Ha.


PROS:

1. The reality TV show charm. Not all reality TV shows work but when they do, it's magic.

2. Ryan Lochte. He has gorgeous body but it is his smile (and dimples) that I like best. Also, he's surprisingly funny in a Is-He-Stoned kind of way.

3. The show averages around 20 to 25 minutes per episode. Well within my attention span.

CONS:

1. Lochte is not the brightest diamond in the rough. When he was asked, What is the Ryan Lochte edge, he answered, "I honestly have no idea." He also has this habit of stopping mid-sentence and asking aloud, What was I talking about?

2. The show is pointless. I don't expect character growth for Lochte. I don't expect the show to go past 3 seasons. I think the show will end once the thrill of his Olympic victories wear off.


THE VERDICT: If you want to waste time but don't want to think will doing so, go watch this show. It has its funny moments. Jeah!

Brave

Not all stories have happy endings. Not all brave men and women, honored. Not all good deeds, rewarded. Not all feelings, reciprocated. But whenever I see one person take the risk, I am inspired to do the same because knowing that you are ready to take the leap or taking the leap is a victory on its own.

What it feels like to go to war

We all went to war the same. Soldiers uncertain with what's ahead of us, with only 2 and a half years of training to help us and, in a way, calm our restless soul. Hoping that we will be able to survive, to come back to our families with weary but proud smiles.

The unknown is vast and scary. You expect the worst--to not come out of it alive--and say goodbye to everyone you hold dear. You say to them, with a straight face, devoid of emotion as much as you can, "I'll try to be back. I'm doing this for you."

The war was what you expected it to be and a lot more. To say that it was hard was an understatement. You've fought countless battles. Some days you win, some days you lose. Because of the peculiarity and urgency of the situation, you develop a bond with your co-soldiers who you fought with. Never has the word "comrade" meant so much to you, as it did in the war.

However, not everyone is a comrade. You realize that the war is a great test of character. You discover, sadly--regardless of what everyone promised before going in--that not everyone is brave, willing and team-spirited. There are those who chose to fight their battles with half-hearted commitment. There are those who fight for themselves, and does not care for your group's well being. There are those who chose to survive at any cost, even at the expense of others. There are those who chose to hide in the shadows while the crossfire is ongoing. They play safe, completely missing the point of going to war with comrades.

When the smoke clears and the battles end, you discover with a heavy, heavy heart that your comrades did not make it. You bite your lip to keep the tears from falling. You try to appear strong and positive. You try to be happy with the fact that you did survive the war. But you can't. You realize what you really wanted. You want to celebrate victory with the comrades you fought the war with. Anything less feels like a loss.

With disdain you realize, those who chose to fight in the war by playing safe survived. They walk around bragging, proud to have survived the war. You try to be happy for them because you understand how hard it is to fight in the war. You remember your comrades, the ones who fought with all their heart with bravery you so admire, and you realize they--these proud soldiers--did not deserve to own the victory you know others have fought hard for. You fear to go to war again with these so-called soldiers. You know you will not make it, with these cowardly, playing safe shits.

Of course only those who went to the war knew the real story. Sadly this is how life, how war, is. It is unfair, it is harsh, it does not give out brownie points for the brave ones. It eats the soul and the hope out of you, numbing you for what is come.

2013 Renewals

How I Met Your Mother is renewed for its final season, Season 9 after Jason Segel's 11th hour turnaround. I have said it before and I'll say it again, HIMYM should have ended with season 7. Right now, season 8 is full of mediocre episodes that serve as a filler in between the important episodes which bring the story forward (Farhampton, Autumn of Break-ups, Splitsville, Final Page, Band or DJ and Romeward Bound) and the funny episodes which reminds us how great writers Bays and Thomas are (Fortress of Barnitude being the lone example). I don't blame the writers for how season 8 turned out (although it's not done yet) because the decision of renewing the show was not in their complete, sole control. I knew that once HIMYM goes into season 8 uncertain if it will be the last, as it did, the writers will have a hard time crafting a proper ending to what has been one of the greatest comedies in recent history. I guess there's nothing we can do about a nearly botched season 8. But I look forward to an exciting and heartbreaking season 9.

Glee is renewed for Season 5 and 6. Graduation of most of its regular characters in season 3 seemed fatal for Glee in Season 4. The writers and producers have tried to come up with a good balance between New York, Lima and, for some time, Louisville but they can only do so much. I think everyone knows how important Rachel, Kurt and now Santana are to the show but we all have to accept the fact that this is a show about a high school show choir not a show about high school show choir graduates. Considering how mediocre and all-over-the-place season 4 is, I think the two new seasons will give the show a chance to improve. But judging by the spoilers for the last few episodes of the season, Glee will try to make the most out its remaining originals' high school lives by extending it the school year to next season. This may seem draggy but I hope the writers would use the opportunity to give the other characters (even the new kids) depth and background story. We have seen Unique's parents but we have yet to see Tina's or Brittany's or even Sugar's not-in-the-mafia dad.

The Big Bang Theory is renewed. TBBT got over the slump that is season 5 with a better and funnier season 6. Finally, Bernadette and Amy have found their rightful places in the show without it feeling forced. The dynamics of the group have developed well, almost at par with the How I Met Your Mother chemistry. Most importantly, season 6 is praise-worthy for the wonderful way it handled Howard's daddy issues with great sincerity reminiscent of a good drama show without veering too far away from a comedy ("The Closet Reconfiguration"). The scene where all of them told Howard their version of Howard's dad's letter is, for me, one of the greatest moments of this show. It has shown how much the guys have grown as individuals and as friends. I hope the next season/s will be another step in that direction, especially for the show's oldest couple Leonard and Penny and Raj.

Once Upon A Time's renewal is a sure thing according to TV Line. Any show with magic is tricky. Once was able to handle magic well in season 1 and the first part of season 2. But similar to using the Mother as a narrative tool in How I Met Your Mother, using magic can be tiring...and at some point, boring. All stories, especially fairy tales, need a good villain to highlight the goodness of the good. With Cora dead, Hook gone and Regina (even Mr. Gold) showing signs of goodness, I wonder what will happen next for Storybrooke. I hope the writers (and fans, too) will realize how apt the saying "All good things must come to an end" is to a show like Once.

Unfortunately, Community is not renewed for season 5, making season 4 its last. To add to Community fans' woes, the writers wrote season 4 not thinking that this is their last. The end result: the last episode of season 4 will feel anything but a series a finale. This is sad, considering how good a show Community is, or once was. No matter how few the fans are, I believe Community deserved to say goodbye with a proper series finale like what Chuck, Desperate Housewives and House did.

The deer is ready, headlights.

The deer does not know what to do with you, the Quietly Approaching Oftentimes Receding Headlights.

Sometimes you come at the deer with such speed and with such intensity that it blinds the deer's vision. Sometimes you sneak up on the deer, in a slow, quiet fashion that always results in the deer being caught off guard. Sometimes, oftentimes, you disappear as fast as you arrived. It seems that the headlights only come at the deer when it is convenient for the headlights to do so.

The deer wants you to know, Quietly Approaching Oftentimes Receding Headlights that it values preparation and planning. It does not appreciate surprises unlike most deers because past ones have only left the deer feeling cheated, weary and afraid. The deer hopes to avoid this by being prepared.

Although it is greatly interested in knowing everything there is to know about headlights, please understand that the deer needs a clear and unmistakable signal that it is safe to approach. That the headlights will not suddenly come at the deer, hit it and run. That the headlights will not suddenly drive away as soon as it sees the deer approach, or as soon as another deer, or headlights, catches its attention.

Please understand that the deer has been enamored by headlights before, and was struck--quite hardly at that. If you ask around, you will know that the deer needed a lot of time to heal from the wounds the hit and run of 2008 have caused. If you look closely, Quietly Approaching Oftentimes Receding Headlights, you will see that the deer has scars. Scars which serve as a constant reminder to the deer to be careful. The world is unsafe. Headlights are everywhere. They have the propensity to hurt unsuspecting deers not because they deliberately want to but because they don't know they're capable of hurting others. It is in their nature to be careless and oblivious.

Please understand that this is where the deer is coming from. The deer is ready and willing to try but please let the deer know, Quietly Approaching Oftentimes Receding Headlights, that you are ready and willing to take the leap of faith, as well.

Quintet 7: Something old, something new

Quintet is a bi-monthly semi-annual music review of any five songs (for this edition let's go with artists) I happen to come across/stumble upon, or were recommended, any how, any time. Suggestions from readers are most welcome because good music deserves to be shared. Let me be your convert or critic.

I planned Quintet to be a bi-monthly thing but life got in the way and prevented me from discovering good music. Although the summer has officially started for the Philippines--we are constantly reminded by the sweltering heat outside--mine has not yet begun because of a final exam scheduled tomorrow, April 17. However, thanks to the goodness that is Twitter I was able to reconnect with old loves (Tristan Prettyman, Joshua Radin, Sara Bareilles) and discover new musicians to fall in love with (Teagan and Sara, Haim).

What I have with Tristan Prettyman's music is a summer fling. I listened to Hello...x five summers ago while I was busy attending badminton summer classes in the PNP just after I finished my 2nd year of college. I discovered Twentythree the summer before that. This summer, I stumbled upon her Twitter account and found out that she has a recently released album called Cedar+Gold. The album has 12 good songs, and no bad ones. I particularly liked "Say Anything", "I Was Gonna Marry You" and "When You Come Down". "The Rebound" is fun to listen to, knowing that, if there's any truth to it, she was able to bounce back from the break-up with a hot guy by the banana stand at Trader Joe's. As final note, the album closes (aptly I must say) with "Never Say Never".

I hope this time around Cedar+Gold will last longer than a summer fling.


Sara Bareilles
This girl is all over the place. "Love Song" finally got it's much-deserved publicity by being covered on by Glee's Lea Michele, Dianna Agron and Naya Rivera. She appeared as a balloon operator in the recent episode of Community (this sounds really important in my head, I swear). And I recently found out she released an EP (an Extended Play, longer than a single but shorter than a full album) in 2012 called Once Upon Another Time featuring five (5) songs. The songs are less upbeat and less...sugar-y compared to other songs from her earlier albums. I'm no music expert but I think the songs showcase her vocal range and talent very, very well. I specifically liked "Lie To Me" and "Sweet as Whole".


Joshua Radin
He'll go down in history as the only musician whose music I shared to my younger brother which he ended up liking. No, correction, my brother loved Joshua Radin. He ended up downloading all songs by Radin that he could find. I particularly loved "Star Mile", "Girlfriend in a Coma" and "Don't Look Away". But most importantly, I love Joshua Radin for "I'd Rather Be With You". I shared this song recently to a crush (yes, in case you know me personally and I shared this to you recently, you now know that I have this teeny tiny crush on you. Awkward.) and I hope I got my message across--if not then, now. Who could go wrong with a song that says, All the things I feel I need to say I can't explain in any other way. I need to be bold. I need to jump in the cold water to grow old with a girl like you? No one. Give Mr. Radin a chance.Your time will not be wasted.


Teagan and Sara
I learned of Teagan and Sara before I joined Twitter while reading Lea Michele's tweets (out of curiosity of course). She tweeted about being in a Heartthrob concert which prompted me to check out what's the fuss all about. And I must say the fuss was well-deserved. The album starts off on a good note with "Closer" (which also made it to Glee) and "Goodbye, Goodbye". I loved "Shock To Your System" for the simple reason that it has lyrics like: What you are is lonely...You must rely on love once in a while to give you reason. Other songs in the album are "I Was A Fool", "I'm Not Your Hero", "How Come You Don't Want Me", "Love They Say", "Drove Me Wild" and "I Couldn't Be Your Friend". I'm sure there's at least one song in the album for everyone. Go give it a listen.


Haim 
I discovered Haim's wonderful music when I saw Teagan and Sara and Sara Bareilles tweet about wanting to join Haim because of their good, good music. And they were not wrong. Haim's EPs are perfect. I like, what I assume are the crowd favorites, "Forever" and "Falling". I loved "Don't Save Me" for it's oh-so-right lyrics (Don't save me if your love isn't strong) and "Send Me Down" for it's beat. We can't be friends

I can see what you're trying to do. You're trying to be my friend. You make an effort to spend time together; to know what I like and tell me what you like. In your own weird way, you have tried to harmonize our (very) differing outlooks in life, likes and dislikes. 

However, no matter how valiant your effort is--and believe me I appreciate it because people rarely want to be my friend--I need to let you down now, when we aren't friends yet. We can't be friends. 

Not because you don't interest me. Not because I can't stand you or your "quirks" as my best friend calls it. Not because I can't temper your abrasiveness and weirdness with my sense of normalcy. Not because our weird senses of humor don't mix. Because you do. I do. We do. 

We can't be friends for the simple reason that I don't date friends. I don't want us to be friends. I want us to be more than that. 

So please forgive me if I step back a bit, if I proceed with caution when dealing with you. I do this because I like you, a lot.

I hope you do, too.

The Third

There are two people you’ll meet in your life. One will run a finger down the index of who you are and jump straight to the parts of you that pique their interest. The other will take his or her time reading through every one of your chapters and maybe fold corners of you that inspired them most. You will meet these two people; it is a given. It is the third that you’ll never see coming. That one person who not only finishes your sentences, but keeps the book.

Deers can tiptoe

Years after being blinded by headlights, the deer has moved on. Despite familiarity with the surroundings, it is now more cautious than ever. Treading forest grounds as if it was made of eggshells and not soil. The deer has familiarized itself with headlights--of different kinds--so as not to be blinded by anything. So as to be safe.

But the deer did not anticipate how headlights come in different forms. Some are bright and instantly engaging--like the one that it experienced before--while some seem normal and plain. Harmless, even. This kind of headlight, small at first, doesn't come at the deer in a quick and blinding albeit mesmerizing fashion. It came like a thief in the night. Slowly making its approach, as if it had all the time in the world.

Maybe it did, the deer had no means to know.

Before the deer knew it, it was mesmerized by headlights yet again. This time though the deer is careful. No matter how positive this new headlight seemed, the deer did not rush towards it with blinded enthusiasm. It is careful. The deer has found out one thing it did not know deers are capable of: Deers can tiptoe.

the deer series started in 2008 with Because deers can't talk, followed by Because the headlights were oblivious, and then by Because the deer has finally learned, and finally concluded in 2009 with Because deers can talk to other deers.

On VapoRape, Babygate 2.0, Wheelchair Love 2.0 and Quintana

Will and Emma's wedding on Valentine's Day served as the third periodic homecoming for New Directions alumni (Glease was the first; Thanksgiving was the second) and a forced Asian bird flu hiatus for Kitty, Unique, Joe and Sugar. I guess the writers would need to invent more periodic homecomings that would entail the old New Directions to come back to McKinley to bring the oomph the new New Directions continually fail to bring.

Tina only needed Kurt to call her out on her shit hag-ness. I hope this marks the end to one of Glee's less thought-out storybits. I hope Blam and Brampocalypse would end soon.

Wheelchair Love 2.0
Making Artie hook up with a girl in a wheelchair was like... Season 3-Quartie all over again. It was tolerable because Kevin McHale had chemistry with Dianna Agron then, and whatsherface now but the difference is that we knew in season 3 that Quinn would walk again and would move on. I think the situation between Artie and whatsherface now is just downright sad because I think it sort of sends the message that guys in wheelchairs inevitably fall in love with girls in wheelchairs. Or vice versa. It's sad either way.

Wheel. The. Hell. Away.

Quintana. 
It has finally happened. I guess Ryan Murphy, after raising the ire of the lesbian blogging community for breaking the fourth wall in a bad way (and of course who can forget the horror that is Brampocalypse), wanted to appease them by making countless fan fictions suddenly canon within minutes. As with most of the newly developed storylines (I think storybits, is a more accurate term for Glee's "storylines") from this episode, I don't know where the writers would go with this. Although I'm all for Brittana (which is endgame, too, Finn ), bringing in Quinn as Santana's girlfriend would be better since Santana gets a new girlfriend without the need to cast another actress and the hassle to develop the character. Also, it would be a good reason for Quinn to be regularly present since Santana now lives with Rachel and Kurt in New York.

Brittana is endgame.

Babygate 2.0
Rachel being pregnant is...as worse as Quinn's Crazy Mother Bitch Phase and Wheelchair Phase in Season 3. It will be pointless. It will be painful to watch Rachel, who's in New York living her dream, be tied up to Finn or Brody. Yeah fine Finn's cuter now or Brody's...I don't know what Brody's deal is actually...but that doesn't change the fact that both guys will hold her back. My reaction to the possibility of a Pregnant Rachel is similar to my reaction to a Finchel Teen Wedding: it seems absurd story-wise but it may happen because of the Glee writers' unpredictability craziness.

The last few seconds of this episode terrified me in ways I did not expect. And I don't even like Rachel Berry.

Re: Wemma's wedding fiasco. Mr. Schue deserved being left at the altar more than Ted Mosby did in How I Met Your Mother. He deserved it because he tried to coerce Emma to go to Washington with him; because he left Emma with the wedding preparations for months, knowing she has OCD, left someone at the altar before and recently divorced; and because when his soon-to-be-wife asked for help, he dismissed her with a kiss, and ran off with his bff to go see his students.
